Shimba Hills national reserve holds one of the largest coastal forests in East Africa. The reserve is rich in flora and fauna hosting the highest density of African elephant in Kenya. Other animal species found in the area are Sable antelope, black and rufous elephant shrew and the bushy tailed mongoose. The forest is an important bird area. Horse back safaris are a popular activity. Camps of the finest quality are found here.
